DCLG announce new measures to bring parish powers back to the towns and cities of England

5th November 2013

Town and parish councils can directly run local facilities such as leisure centres and theatres, manage parks, establish bylaws, run job clubs, fund community groups and use the community rights and help stop the clock on the sale of important local assets such as pubs and green space.  The new measures will make it easier to create a parish council.

The government has also published its response to the consultation on making it easier to set up a new town or parish council - https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/making-it-easier-to-set-up-new-town-and-parish-councils-discussion-paper
