Food AWARE CIC is a social enterprise set up to find ways of redistributing surplus food from potential waste to human consumption or other environmentally friendly means of reuse.

To all our Friends, Volunteers, Partners, Funders and Supporters of Food AWARE

It is the season of goodwill and we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all of your support during 2012.

What an eventful year it has been! We have:

  • Diverted over 300 tonnes of perfectly edible but 'surplus' food away from potential waste and delivered into deprived communities feeding over 1,000 less fortunate people/families every week
  • Educated over 5,000 people on Food Labelling/Before Before dates/Healthy Eating at over 20 community events
  • Supported 30 new partner projects helping vulnerable people across South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire & North Nottinghamshire
  • Recruited 35 new volunteers
  • Delivered a range of Training Disciplines e.g. Food Safety in Catering, First Aid, Health & Safety etc to over 100 local people
  • Nurtured 3 people back into Employment/Self-Employment
  • Delivered a variety of training, educational and celebration sessions/events as part of our Big Lottery/Local Food funded 'HYPER' (Helping Yorkshire People Eat Responsibly) project
  • Been Short-listed for 'Social Impact of the Year 2012' award by Social Enterprise Yorkshire & Humber (SEYH)
  • Achieved 'Runner-up' in Recycling Award category at the Doncaster Free Press Environmental Awards
  • and so on!!!

Our 'Christmas Care' campaign has been a huge success and we have been amazed by the support! We have managed to support over 2,000 vulnerable people across South/West Yorkshire over the festive period whilst diverting an additional 8 tonnes of surplus food away from potential waste. Special thanks to KP Nuts/United Biscuits for the 7 pallets of crisps, biscuits and nuts they donated last week which will be enjoyed by so many over the Christmas period.

Demand for our services have significantly increased over the past 12 months and we anticipate this to escalate to unprecedented levels in 2013 when the Welfare Reform changes start to take their toll on our already much deprived and vulnerable communities from April. In order to embrace this challenging climate, we are teaming up with our trusted partners to support more local Foodbanks/community projects and also open up new Foodbanks/Food Co-operatives in key communities across South Yorkshire starting in Doncaster and Rotherham in Spring 2013.

We are unable to help so many vulnerable people without the support of our volunteers, suppliers, partners, funders and friends.

Thank you for supporting us and we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

These are just some examples of the surplus food (especially 5-a-day) we receive every week and redistribute to needy people!!

Very best wishes from all at Food AWARE CIC
