Visit to Royds Community Association
22nd September 2009
Visit a leading third sector enterprise for an insight into the workings of a sustainable organisation.
Tuesday 22 September 2009
Charity Bank in the North´s Investment Readiness Programme team is hosting a visit to the Bradford-based Royds Community Association.
A pioneering example of large-scale renewal and regeneration that delivers sustainable community-led solutions, this could be an eye-opening experience for any organisation looking to improve their financial sustainability.
From its beginnings as the deliverer of a £31million SRB1 scheme in the mid-1990´s, Royds has since embraced opportunities to create a diverse income stream with projects including their flagship Enterprise Park, Neighbourhood Wardens Scheme, Neighbourhood Management Programmes, Welfare Benefits & Debt Advice Service and a national consultancy service.
During the visit you will get to see some of Royds´ projects in action, meet others over a networking lunch and hear more about its work in a Q&A session with the Royds Chief Executive and Senior Finance staff.
There will be a lot packed into this full day event, which starts at 9:30am and finishes at 4:30pm, which will include some time for reflection and key learnings.
This is a unique opportunity to get behind the rhetoric and to the close up reality of a trailblazing organisation that has been, and continues to be, on the journey to financial sustainability.

Charity Bank in the North´s Investment Readiness Programme offers a comprehensive and practical programme of support to Third Sector Organisations interested in exploring issues around sustainability.
The Next Steps to Sustainability part of the programme is run by the University of Huddersfield and consists of a series of workshops and visits. Our three Next Steps workshops explore some of the key issues that Third Sector Organisations need to consider when looking at how to continue delivering social benefits to the people and communities they serve.
The workshops are:
- Opportunity Knocks: takes a practical approach to helping you identify and take advantage of opportunities to generate sustainable sources of income.
- Organising for Success: is aimed at anyone who works for a Third Sector organisation and would like to understand more about legal structures and governance - particularly relating to issues around income generation.
- Sustainability Health Check: helps you consider the financial health of your organisation. Our aim is to help you get intimate with your organisation´s finances so that you can identify, in financial terms, your organisation´s strengths and weaknesses.
